How to Repair LCD/LED TV with
Symptom
No
Sound
Last month, I have 3 membership members ask me about this Tv problem. The common steps to
checking the Tv with no sound problem are:
1) Checking their volume setting is in normal position or not. Some time, it could be the TV was
in mute mode, so the customer will think the Tv is no sound.
2) Try other video signals input like: AV, HDMI & etc. If all input also showed no output
sound, then checking the Mainboard and the speakers. If just the TV signal input no sound, then we can direct
checking their audio signal output from Tuner in the Mainboard.
So that 3 TV problem are: 2 of the Tv totally no sound and 1 Tv is after 3~4 seconds Tv will no
sound output from the speakers. One of the no sound TV problems was in the Mainboard. Their audio section Vcc
voltage input was opened by a small SMD fuse.
The other two Tv sound problem, even checked their mainboard audio section Vcc input, speakers
and login to TV service mode to set it as default setting also no help! Try to using headphone and plug in
the earphone/headphone jack, surprisingly can hear the sound now!?
Actually i had this experience before, so i told them to check and replace this part. Can you
guess what’s wrong about these TV? …………..
The ANSWER is……HEADPHONE jack defective!! After they replace the headphone jack, TV sound
problem was solved! Surprisingly the other two TV no sound problem is same problem, headphone jack defective.
But when you put an earphone in it, you can hear the sound! So suspect that the headphone jack inside is
shorted and causing the Mainboard is in Earphone Mode, so they are no sound output from the
speakers.
Conclusion:
So next time when facing this type of TV problem, try to do the above method, if the problem
still persists, try to de-solder the headphone jack pins from Mainboard PCB and power on the TV to checking
it first. So it will save you lots of time to troubleshoot it and even save you money. Because some repairer
when they don’t know how to testing it, they just easily replace a whole mainboard to ‘repair’ this TV. So
the cost to repair TV will very high, because of replace a mainboard!
